Volunteering for Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement is the world’s largest and fastest growing business and economic education organisation. It is unique in that it recruits the very people who are most knowledgeable and enthusiastic about enterprise to teach students about the business world. Every year, thousands of volunteers from business communities go directly into local classrooms and teach enterprise skills to students and the value of educational qualifications. Drawing from real-life work experience to enhance lesson plans prepared by Junior Achievement, these individuals help young people develop the leadership skills they will need to succeed in school, the future workplace and in life. By stepping into the classroom and offering real-life examples to our programme curriculum, they provide relevance to students' education.

By volunteering with JANigeria, you will help students:

  • Understand the connection between classroom studies and the workplace;
  • Build positive attitudes towards work and develop the decision making and thinking skills that produce success in the workplace;
  • Enhance self-esteem and confidence, teamwork, leadership and interpersonal skills;
  • Appreciate the importance of an education and the concept of lifelong learning;
  • Meet positive role models from their community;
  • Experience 'hands-on' learning;
  • Appreciate business and economic concepts and the elements of entrepreneurship.
You Gain More Than You Give

There is no better way to re-learn your area of expertise than by helping eager and curious young people to understand it. You might be surprised at how volunteers improve their own work, based on what they've done in the classroom with JA students.

JAN helps business too. By helping to expose young people to the business experience, companies are taking a strong part in the training of their employees of tomorrow. A company's involvement in JAN is actually about getting a head start on that firm's corporate future.
