The Run-a-thon is basically a fund raising program for Junior Achievement to help reach more student and impact more lives especially the underserved one. Students of Junior Achievement, participants in the fund raising activity, and the general public run a mini – marathon and win prizes after helping to raise to funds for Junior Achievement.. It is a fun- filled program aimed at raising funds, relaxing the participants as well as keeping them fit. The program is in two major parts, the fund raising activities and the fun run.
The Fund Raising Activity
The Corporate bodies, School, Individuals, other stakeholders and the general public join Junior Achievement in raising funds to reach more children, especially the underserved. Junior Achievement hand this/these individual(s)/corporate bodies envelopes which they use to raise fund. They often work in teams with a target which they should meet within a set period. The funds raised are turned in to Junior Achievement at the end of the fund raising period.
The Fun Run
After the fund raising activities, Junior Achievement invites all stakeholders who participated in the fund raising activities to fun filled event at a location identified by Junior Achievement. Individuals who did not participate in the fund raising activities are also allowed to participate in the fun filled event but will have to pay, which will serve as their contribution toward the fund raising.
The event usually is a 5km race around the radius of the venue of the event. Junior Achievement included soccer last year which made the event more colourful and by popular demand we have concluded plans to include soccer again this year, allowing participants have more fun.
The highlight of the day would be when awards and gifts are given out to participants in the 5km race as well the soccer competition. There will also be lots of food and drinks at the venue with music to entertain. The spirit of the program is participation but not to win prizes.
