The Company Program is Junior Achievement's original program. It is an elementary practical program where students establish and run their own company. Guided by their teacher and two business consultants / role models, they set up a company by selling shares of stock, electing company officers, designing, producing and marketing a product and finally liquidating the company and paying any dividends to shareholders. The program runs for a minimum of fifteen weeks and gives students hands-on experience of owning and running a real company.

Program Objectives
The goals of the Company Program are to:

  • Provide an experiential supplement to the business and economics educations of high school students to help them better understand how businesses are organized and operated
  • Help students develop critical thinking, speaking, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrate the rewards of the free enterprise system.
  • Introduce students to career opportunities and teach basic workforce-readiness skills.
  • Foster a positive relationship between youth and the business community.
During the course of their Junior Achievement Company's operation, students will have the opportunity to:
  • Incorporate and capitalize by selling stock (if appropriate).
  • Organize a board of directors and elect officers or management teams.
  • Develop a business plan.
  • Establish production and sales goals for their company and monitor progress toward goals at regular department and company meetings.
  • Maintain complete financial records.
  • Compile an annual report to stockholders, and liquidate the company.
In conclusion, students explore all opportunities and skills learnt and apply these into their personal entrepreneurial pursuits and career development. Students thus conduct the final Board of Directors liquidation meeting and approve the Annual Report. They also pay tax to JA Nigeria and conduct a social responsibility activity in their immediate environment.
