JA Nigeria's Summer Camp 2006:
JA Nigeria held its first summer program in August this year. This Summer School program was made possible with the grants received from Accenture in May. These programs ran from the 1st through 26th August 2006 at various centers in Lagos. Some of the programs that took place were:
One-Day Elementary School Program (ESP) - The mode of implementation of the ESP was innovative as well as interesting. With the localization of our core-program materials, we once again ensured that qualitative, informative and educative programs are bought to Nigeria Youths. The program implementation was different from the conventional 5-week, one hour week program, we decided to have a program that will bring together students from different school and different background to learn together and share together. This year's program was delivered through a summer school program. Students from all the nooks and crannies of Lagos came together under one roof to learn the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace.
Economics for Success - This year saw us include another program into our program pool. This was in-line with worldwide trend. Junior Achievement Worldwide had combined two interesting programs, Economics of Staying and Personal Economics, to form Economics for success. JA Economics for Success explores personal finance and students' education and career options based on their skills, interests, and values. It also demonstrates the economic benefits of staying in school.
The JA Job Shadow program introduces students to careers through one-day, on-site workplace orientations. It helps to build the students with their work and career life skills. The JA Job Shadow helps to relate the Junior Achievement Programs (Company Program) in Secondary schools with the actual work place. This year, the program piloted with three (3) schools and three (3) Board member companies during the summer holidays.
The students were able to spend quality time as well as gain hands-on experience in specific departments in the organizations.
