Our Story

Junior Achievement is the world's oldest and largest non-profit economic education organization operating in 112 countries worldwide. Junior Achievement is dedicated to building a bridge between the classroom and the workplace by encouraging young people to participate in a range of educational programmes designed to help them understand the world of work. JA started operations in Nigeria in the last quarter of 1999, and since then has reached over 150,000 students in over six hundred and fifty schools in Lagos, Abeokuta, Ibadan, Ilorin, Abuja, Jos, Kano, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Warri and Enugu through over 500 volunteers. Junior Achievement Nigeria (JA Nigeria) offers FREE business economic education programs tailored to add value to young people between the ages of 5 - 25 in Nigeria. JA Nigeria is seeking to reach 1,000,000 young people in Nigeria by the end of year 2010
Our Goals

  • Build a bridge between the classroom and the workplace
  • Be recognized as the leader in the delivery of high quality supplementary economic education programs in Nigeria
  • Contribute to the development of young Nigerian business leaders that can compete with their peers anywhere in the world
  • Foster socially responsible attitudes and patriotic spirit in successful business leaders and companies operating in Nigeria
  • Contribute towards the development of a positive attitude towards business in Nigerian Youth
  • Contribute to the positive empowerment of disadvantaged young people living in large cities to help reduce urban poverty in Nigeria
Our Reach

JA NIGERIA offers several programmes for young people aged 5 - 25 years, which involve a unique partnership between business and education that teaches primary, secondary and tertiary level students, as well as selected members of the National Youth Service Corps, the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship. Programmes are underpinned by high quality course material funded by the business sector and provided to schools free of charge. The business community also provides business professionals who bring first-hand experience of the business world into the classroom as volunteers. JA NIGERIA teaches the next generation of business leaders a wide variety of lessons, including the importance of staying in school, what goes into running a business and how to trade with a partner in another country. JA NIGERIA is concerned with teaching young people about the mechanics of business management, economics and the work ethic, directly from business people, with the net effect of seeding and developing a vibrant, conscientious Nigerian private sector that can compete successfully in the global economy, and youth that have positive attitudes towards business
Our Supporters

In each country, Junior Achievement is funded primarily by the private sector. In Nigeria, major Nigerian companies give something back to the community by making an investment in young people. Companies donate to JA NIGERIA either as Board Members or as Sustaining Members of the organisation. Board Members are required to attend four board meetings a year, serve on at least one committee, make annual financial and in-kind contributions, and involve their personnel in teaching JA NIGERIA programmes. Sustaining Members commit to one or more of the Board Member requirements. The long-term goal of JA NIGERIA is to foster an enterprise culture in young people and encourage them to fulfil their potential in Nigeria's growing economy. You can help contribute to this growth by investing a little of your company's expertise in the next generation
